Medveija
Medveija is considered to be the best pebble beach on the coast.
There are cafes, restaurants, a playground in the water for children and jet skies to rent for adults. There are different kinds of deck chairs including double ones with curtains.
This is the only place in Opatija where pebbles are very round, smooth and small which is very comfortable for walking into the sea.
Lovran
There is a number of beaches:
The biggest one is the village beach located on plates equipped with stairs and haindrails to enter the sea, toilets, changing cabins, deck chairs and umbrellas.
Children’s favourite swimming place is a small area of the sea where the floor is covered with sand, not pebbles.
If walking along Lungomare towards Ika and Icici there is a possibility to walk down to natural and abandoned rocky beaches. Some of them have changing cabins and stairs with handrails; some of them have no facilities provided at all.
On the west edge of Lovran there is a beach with small pebbles.
Малый рай
Mali raj
It is a small pebble beach located roughly in the middle between Icici and Opatija.
The beach is tiny, but it has a smooth descent to the sea and is surrounded by scenic cliffs. There are no hotels or living areas nearby except Mali raj restaurant where you can have lunch or just wait out the time with the sun being in its peak, drink coffee or eat an ice cream.
There are not deck chairs, umbrellas or changing cabins.
Slatina
This is the central beach in Opatija, it is the town center where the most respectable hotels and restaurants are located.
The beach is constructed from concrete plates and has convenient descents to the sea. Moreover, in the central part there are so called ox-bow lakes – pools in which water warms up and faster and to a higher temperature than on the other parts of the beach.
Tomashevich
This pebble beach located just in the middle between Opatija and Volosko is the preferred one for families with children.
It is a tiny beach with a flat descent to the sea and the necessary facilities including cafes, changing cabins, deck chairs and umbrellas.
Volosko
Tourists do not swim in Volosko itself because its coastline is stretched along the boating berth. However, there are picturesque beaches and spots to swim located on the cliffs just outside town.
